What makes the perfect image?

When working with a brand to find their perfect image it all begins with an idea, what is your brand’s story? what is the message you want to get across to your clients? Once we have this we can really plan your shoot and work towards the right images for you

  1. Plan, Plan and Plan some more. During our meetings we Create the concept- this is a team effort and will help us create a shoot plan that delivers the brand message.

  2. The details- I love the planning process and it is my job to make sure we don’t miss any details along the way, from the moment we begin until the moment you receive the final images.
    - What Creative team do you need? Do you you need a stylist, models, Hair & Make-up, A prop stylist? This will all be deicded as we can but with my strong team behind me, we can make your vision come to life.

  3. Location Vs Studio-Locations can provide many questions like permits/weather/fees but they can also give you a large varied amount of content in one shoot. For example the image below was shot in London, we did need permits for certain locations but in a day we used street shots mixed with a rented yoga studio to make sure we had the ideal shoot and got the perfect images for the brand.

Studio is great if you are looking for e-commerce images, images that continue with the same lighting/crops/look. It is also great for product campaigns. With studio you are more contained and have the benefit of no weather watching and also the fun option of building sets to create the exact look you are after. The product images below were shot in studio and have 3 different aspects of studio space being used. I created sets for the two on the right and using my home studio- these style shoots are a perfect option during any lockdown periods.

4. Lighting- Natural Vs Artificial- I love natural light, it creates soft shadows and it really suits lifestyle images and location images- It is my favourable choice of light as it is great to play with and suits campaigns that are outside or lifestyle set ups in the home. So why would we use artificial? Artificial lighting is great for painting light into an image- I use it for studio and indoor shoots but I also have location lighting to be able to remove shadows, or add in harsher lighting. When planning shoots- the lighting we always be designed to get the best quality images. Below is the comparison of two studio shoots using different lighting to achieve the image we wanted.

5. Styling- Styling varies from props to clothing and is vital in every image. Have you ever looked at an image of a model and looked at a sofa/plant/picture in the background…they are always planned and placed and are there to tell the viewer a story or to sell the audience a lifestyle. My career has panned across Photography, Styling and Set-Design meaning I have a great understanding on how to build the full image.

The image below was for Placenta Essex who make Placenta capsules, the main objective of the images was to sell the lifestyle that comes with the capsules. A healthy lifestyle, an organic lifestyle and therefore I searched for home props that would give a natural feel. I created the smoothie bowl and shot this at home during lockdown, the reason I chose this image when talking about styling is the use of colour- if you notice on the bottle there is a tree and it is green and a blueish purple, then look at the smoothie bowl- the blueberries, the seeds and the eucalyptus on the table all compliment the logo and tie the image together.

So how do you get the perfect image? It is all in the idea, the plan and delivering your message. I hope this has helped give you an idea of how we get from the idea to the final perfect image.

FaceTime Fashion shoots

During this time I have kept busy with many tasks including decorating the house, learning new recipes and being active to keep fit. But I have missed being behind the camera lens, this has been the longest break I have had from working with teams or clients since I began 12 years ago.

So I decided to try something different and new; FaceTime fashion shoots. Working with models based all around the world, I have been able to design and conduct some fantastic fashion shoots all from my phone, sadly they will not be high clarity but it has not only re-ignited my creativity again but it has let me reconnect with many of my favourite models. From New York to Italy & Portugal and back to London. I hope you like this little collection of images I have created.

Lyun Magazine Publication: Coastal Chaser

My third publication this year was in the new Magazine Lyun Magazine for their Spring issue. I had already shot this editorial as a test but I had not released all the images and therefore I felt they should be in print as they are too beautiful not to share.

Victoria is a fantastic model with perfect fluidity in her posing styles, One of my methods when shooting is to give basic direction and let the model express themselves how they feel comfortable- this has always given me the best images and beautiful portraits. Mostly it has made for comfortable shoots with a lot of fun involved.

Salysé Magazine Publication: City Scapes

It is always great to see your work in print, but it is even better when it is in a publication as beautiful as Salysé Magazine. I was so happy to have my submission of my City Scape editorial accepted and published in their April Issue.

What is great about these shoots is I have full art direction from casting models/team to designing the shoot and how I would like the final outcome. This was all shot within 4 hours in London city around Liverpool St and the Thames. I had a perfect model in Mariam who was diverse and able to take direction well. We had a battle with the weather which was against us but this editorial was shot, selected, edited, submitted and accepted within a 24 hour period (proving how strong this series was).

Essex Living Publication

It was a great honour to be picked to Photograph the Fashion issue cover of the Essex Living Magazine this April. I art directed and shot the cover story with a great team of girls. We chose Hatfield Place as the setting with its beautiful tall windows and beautiful interior features- it was the perfect location but shooting in February was always going to be a challenge to get the spring light.
This was a fashion story about the local boutiques and their accessories, whilst Laura sourced the clothing I worked alongside her to source the accessories and include as many boutiques and brands as we could in 6 pages.

Working alongside Laura the stylist, we designed the shoot to work the core Spring/Summer trends including Greens & beiges, this worked for the Spring colour theme as well as giving us a lovely neutral palette to work with. We wanted a spring floral theme but in January there isn’t much in bloom, therefore we decided to work with artificial flower arrangements by the amazingly talented Made You Look Flowers. The set looked so bright and spring like. With the Make-up & hair, Alannah kept it very soft, feminine and eye catching.

As a team we worked perfectly together and would love to work on more jobs for example brand look books & campaigns.

Fact + Fiction

When I had planned to work with new brands, i didn’t expect to work with such a great brand so early. Fact + Fiction are a British brand and their bags have luxury sewn through them. When meeting with the girls it was clear they wanted to push their website to the next level and for their to be continuity throughout the site.
We will be continually collaborating on shoots throughout 2019 but to begin the year we launched with a very basic colour scheme, hinting in to the Pantone of the year- Coral, and remaining to brand.

I love to help brands design their sites through their photographic styling and the colour schemes that will best show their products. Their site is live and if you are interested in their bags- give them a look at

Happy New Year Banner

My second banner shoot for Everything 5 pounds with all creative direction handed to me, the theme was party and the budget was low- we went for full on sparkle. Using the tinsel curtains was so effective for the website, the banner is currently live and is fun, vibrant and shows the products perfectly.

Beauty comes in all shapes & sizes

THIS WEEK IT WAS ALL ABOUT PLUS SIZE BLOGGERS JOEY, ROB & JEN- AND CREATING BODY POSITIVE PORTRAITS THAT WOULD SHOW THEIR PERSONALITIES AT THEIR BEST. HOWEVER BEING SOMEONE WHO IS ALSO PLUS SIZE, WE DECIDED I WOULD JOIN THE SHOOT AND PUT MYSELF IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA-SOMETHING THAT WAS OUT OF COMFORT ZONE BUT THIS SHOOT WAS FULL OF FUN, CONFIDENCE BOOSTING AND STYLE.

FOR BLOGGER STYLE SHOOTS, I CREATE A THEME, A MOOD BOARD AND FIND THE PERFECT LOCATIONS TO TELL YOUR STORY.

THE THEME OF THE SHOOT: PUMPKIN SPICE
LOCATION: LEIGH-ON-SEA.

EAST COAST TATTOO CONVENTION

HAVE YOU EVER WATCHED A TATTOO ARTIST AT WORK? THE FOCUS, THE PATIENCE AND THE STEADY HANDS…THIS CONVENTION WAS A GREAT EVENT- BEING ABLE TO SEE NEW ARTISTS EVOLVE AND EXPERIENCED ARTISTS SHARE THEIR TALENT. I MYSELF HAVE BEEN TO MANY EVENTS BUT THIS EVENT WAS UNIQUE, WHY? THE POSITIVITY IN THE ROOM. FOR ME, I LOVE ALL ART BUT ESPECIALLY TATTOOS….THE WAY WE CAN USE OUR BODIES TO DOCUMENT MOMENTS IN OUR LIFE OR TO BECOME A PIECE OF ART. I MAY HAVE BEEN HERE TO TAKE PORTRAITS OF THE ARTIST AT WORK BUT I COULDN’T LEAVE WITHOUT A PIECE MYSELF!

IF YOU HAVE AN EVENT COMING UP, LETS TALK ABOUT WHAT WE CAN CREATE.

B A N N E R S H O O T

WHEN I WAS ASKED TO SHOOT THE AUTUMN BANNER FOR EVERYTHING5POUNDS.COM, I WAS SO EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO CREATE A NEW LOOK FOR THE WEBSITE. ALONGSIDE THE TEAM WE CREATED AN URBAN MOODBOARD, SHOOTING IN AN INDUSTRIAL LOCATION.

THE COLOUR PALETTE WAS BLUE MIXED WITH WARM TONES, AND THE IMAGES WERE SHOT IN A VERY WARM OCTOBER- MEANING WE HAD TO TONE THE COLOUR PALETTE TO MIX THE TONES PERFECTLY.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO RE-BRAND YOUR WEBSITE, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH.
